The following are excerpts from thank you letters from student recipients of endowed scholarships to their benefactors.

Recipient of the Joan Sheridan Barlow `54 Endowed Scholarship:

It is difficult for me to verbalize what this scholarship has meant to me as well as to my family. I have worked extremely hard to get where I am today, and I never thought I would get an education like the one I am earning at Saint Rose. Not only has this gift relieved a tremendous financial burden, it has also been a way to show my family how hard I have worked over the years to get to where I am now.
I cannot thank you enough for providing me, as well as other students, this tremendous opportunity, and I wish there was some way to give back to you. Thank you for your generosity and support.

Recipient of the Monsignor Delaney Alumni Family Scholarship:

I chose The College of Saint Rose because of its renowned Speech and Language Pathology program. It’s truly a privilege to be able to study under such dedicated and gifted professors. I’m in the College’s dual-degree accelerated program for Communication Sciences and Disorders, which means that I’ll graduate with my masters in Speech Pathology and my bachelors in Education by the end of my fifth year.

Thanks to The College of Saint Rose, I have the rigorous schooling and vast opportunities that I need in order to delve into my future career as a Speech-Pathologist. I will continue to strive to be a lifelong learner and will always be grateful for the contribution that the Monsignor Delaney Alumni Family Scholarship has made to my education and my career goals.

Recipient of the Edgar A. and Margaret Dugan Sandman Endowed Scholarship:

I chose The College of Saint Rose for its size, affordability, and statement...Passion, Knowledge, and Purpose. I have the passion to succeed and the College reinforces that in you. Knowledge makes me think of the quality of the education I am receiving. I have the ability to talk to my professors and know that they remember my name. Purpose is knowing what one wants to achieve and I know what I want to do and why I want to do it. I am currently a Communication Sciences and Disorders major in the Dual Degree/Accelerated Program and I am already accepted into the graduate program at Saint Rose. I have you to thank for helping me get where I am today.

Recipient of the James and Marietta Gargiulo Scholarship:

I chose The College of Saint Rose because the minute I stepped foot on this campus I felt like I belonged. I had not looked at any private colleges because I thought I would never be able to afford one. There were many times that I thought I was not going to be able to come to Saint Rose due to financial concerns, but the employees at this school cared enough about me to make it possible.
Without your generosity nothing I have accomplished would have been possible. I would not be a student of the College without this scholarship and for that I am forever grateful to you. I hope you realize how much you have made a difference in my life.

Recipient of the Hearst Foundation Endowed Scholarship:

I am writing to thank you for your generous contribution to my education. I am currently a junior at Saint Rose and I am majoring in Business with a concentration in Financial Planning. My Saint Rose experience has definitely been one to remember forever. I am in my second year as a resident assistant and as a tour guide for the College. Once again, I want to thank you for all your help, it is greatly appreciated.

Recipient of the Hearst Foundation Endowed Scholarship:

First, I would like to sincerely thank you for your contribution through the Hearst Foundation Endowed Scholarship. Secondly, I am pleased to inform you that as a junior, I am honored to serve as the President for Spectrum; the ALANA Student Union at The College of Saint Rose. As a Saint Rose student organization, our goal is to spread awareness about the various racial/ethnic heritages represented on our campus. Through knowledge and open discussion we are working to build student leaders that are active in promoting diversity, creating unity and acceptance on campus and in the community.

As Sociology major, I have found that there is a dire need for the informed masses to help spread awareness about issues of public health. The Executive Board of Spectrum hopes to be an agent in teaching our peers about the risk factors of this disease so that they can live healthy lives. Thank you for your continued support and good wishes.

Recipient of the Valerie E. Kehrwieder Endowed Scholarship in the Sciences:

I chose to attend The College of Saint Rose because there is a different atmosphere around Saint Rose compared to other colleges. I think it is the feeling of strong community among the students and staff. There isn’t a day that goes by on campus where someone doesn’t hold doors or engage in small acts of kindness for others and that is what makes Saint Rose different. My career plans include teaching at the elementary level and I hope to make a difference in the lives of many children. It is an honor to receive the scholarship support that you have provided.

Recipient of the Mary Lou Lamb `55 and Dr. Robert Lamb Scholarship:

I am the recipient of the Mary Lou Lamb `55 and Dr. Robert Lamb Scholarship for which I am truly honored. Through your selflessness and kindness, I was able to continue my studies at Saint Rose and will be graduating with my degree in Mathematics in May 2011.
I consider myself blessed to have been able to attend Saint Rose and all my experiences have been wonderful. I have grown into the woman I always hoped to become because of the support I received at this wonderful College. The generosity of the alumna like you helps Saint Rose students thrive and succeed. I work in the College’s Alumni Relations Office and I love to listen to all of the positive memories that are shared with the office. The generosity of alumni like you allows new students to create their own wonderful memories.

Recipient of the Morris Massry Scholarship in Business:

I chose Saint Rose for my education because of the environment it provides. Throughout my four years here I have developed strong relationships with some of the nicest and most generous people I have ever met. The College’s mission of Passion, Knowledge, and Purpose is really true. The Morris Massry Scholarship in Business has helped me to fulfill my education goals. It is an honor to receive this scholarship and the support that you have provided.

Recipient of the Project 70 Internship:

I cannot thank you enough for giving me the opportunity to intern at the Juneau- Douglas City Museum in Juneau, Alaska. I have always wanted to go to Alaska and I certainly enjoyed my time there. I learned a lot about how a small museum is run, with only four full time positions, everyone ends up doing a little of everything. I worked on a gift shop information manual, updated the museum’s standard operating procedures manual, and assisted with getting the volunteers settled in the mornings. I worked with the Curator of Public Programs on Juneau’s Explorer’s Week, and on the creation of the Evergreen Cemetery tour. I also worked with the Curator of Collections and photographed pieces from the collection.

Recipient of the Sister Theresa Wysolmerski, CSJ Endowed Scholarship Fund:

I chose The College of Saint Rose because I felt that in a smaller school I would get a more personalized education and I would actually get to know my professors. I believe this affords me with a better college experience; one in which I am not overwhelmed by the size and number of students. Also, being in the middle of the Capital District gives me more opportunities for volunteering and internships.
I currently participate in Science Club, Natural Science Association, and I am a Peer Leader in a science workshop for students majoring in Education. l have been doing research at the Wadsworth Center for almost a year. Also, I am an associate member of the Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society and a student member of the American Chemical Society.
