A New Home for the School of Business

The College is building a new home for the School of Business that will have a transformational impact on the School and the campus. This facility will dramatically enhance the academic experience of students and faculty alike, providing the latest technology, additional classrooms and seminar rooms, and dedicated spaces for internship coordination, entrepreneurship and leadership programming. The building will be located at 994 Madison Avenue in a historic 19th century residence directly opposite the College’s first major building, Saint Joseph Hall, representing a link between the past and present.

SAINT ROSE RECEIVES LARGE GIFT FOR NEW SCHOOL OF BUSINESS

Richard J. HuetherALBANY (May 19, 2011) -- The College of Saint Rose today announced that Richard J. Huether of Schenectady, a trustee of the College for more than a decade, has made a transformational gift toward the College’s “Campaign for the School of Business.”

Huether’s gift brings the total amount raised to $2.8 million toward the $5 million campaign goal, which includes funds for construction and academic programming. Huether joins more than 20 other donors who have made early leadership gifts for the College’s newest project.

At its May 13 meeting, the Saint Rose board of trustees approved a resolution to name the “Huether School of Business” in recognition of Huether’s very significant gift. The College plans to house the school in a renovated building at 994 Madison Ave. in Albany.

Huether is a seasoned executive from the business world with a keen understanding for business education in the collegiate setting. He retired as a General Electric executive after 34 years of service working in various areas of marketing. After retirement, he completed 25 years as a member of the University of Notre Dame faculty as a lecturer at the University’s School of Business Administration, teaching courses in marketing and management at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Huether has authored several articles on marketing and has been an invited speaker to international conferences.

A Schenectady native, Huether graduated from Christian Brothers Academy and then followed his father and uncles to Notre Dame, where he earned his bachelor of science degree. He is the recipient of the Christian Brothers Academy’s Excellence in Alumni and Community Service Award.

Active in community service, Huether serves on the boards of several non-profits. He was appointed to the College’s board in 1998, currently serving as board secretary, a member of the executive committee and chair of the campus life committee. In 2008, he received the Board of Trustees Torch of Strength Award. Huether has been a loyal benefactor of the College over the past two decades and has always been passionate about the holistic development of each student who partakes in the Saint Rose educational experience.

“The new Huether School of Business will dramatically enhance the academic experience of students and faculty alike providing the latest technology, additional classrooms, seminar rooms and dedicated spaces for internship coordination, leadership and entrepreneurship programming,” said Dr. Severin Carlson, dean of the Huether School of Business.

Dr. R. Mark Sullivan“Dick is thoroughly invested in the important role that first-class facilities play in advancing the mission and quality of our academic programs. What guides Dick’s thinking, however, is the power of well-designed spaces and technology that enable faculty members to shape the educational development of our students who learn by doing as much as they learn by lessons and lectures. It is Dick’s hope that his gift will serve as a catalyst for others to invest in the education of the next generation of business leaders at this time of critical change in today’s economy.”
