The College of Saint Rose Student Alumni Association Constitution

I. PREAMBLE

The organization shall be open to all students who meet all reasonable established organization qualifications, and such qualifications shall not be based on race, religion, gender, creed, color, age, disability, sexual orientation, or veteran status unless provided by law. The membership consists of an application process that includes an application, resume, references, and an essay.

II. STUDENT ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

The name of such organization shall be The College of Saint Rose Student Alumni Association, heretofore may be referred to as the SAA.

III. MISSION STATEMENT

The Student Alumni Association will serve to better connect current Saint Rose students and Saint Rose alumni in an effort to network, entice personal and career development, to foster Saint Rose tradition, and to develop a culture of philanthropy. SAA will capture highly motivated students to develop their networking capacities, leadership, and patronage. Our engagements with the Albany and Alumni community will expand the setting for individual development, networking opportunities, and encourages the Saint Rose community’s involvement and effective leadership in society.

IV. DUTIES & MEMBERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

•A member of SAA shall be any person who is in the process of receiving an undergraduate and/or graduate degree from The College of Saint Rose.

•To develop effective and responsible leadership through contact and experience in college projects and programs, thereby enhancing the education of the students and preparing them to serve as future alumni leaders.

•To help direct and assist with the goals of The College of Saint Rose Alumni Association by introducing students to the Alumni Association before they graduate.

•To promote the interests of and understanding between the students of the past, present, and future at The College of Saint Rose through the programs and services offered by the organization and in joint efforts with its sponsor, The College of Saint Rose Office of Alumni Relations & Annual Giving and The College of Saint Rose Alumni Association National Board of Directors.

•The membership of the Student Alumni Association is selective in order to create a positive and successful association. After an application process, the best candidates will be chosen to create a sustainable and productive group.

•Members must be heavily engaged in school spirit, sponsor events (i.e. Mr. StRose), become involved in the community, and develop an understanding of the connection between alumni and the College as well as the importance of the philanthropic efforts and responsibilities of the College and the office of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving.

•Members will have the opportunity to meet high ranking officials of the College and prestigious alumni; therefore, they must be capable of acting in a professional and friendly manner.

•Members will be involved in the ambassador program to give campus tours as a function to guide cherished donors as well as alumni. The members will attend to donors and friends of Saint Rose in an official capacity.

•Members will put on fundraising events to fund the association and to produce a senior class gift.

•Members of the SAA are campus leaders and must exemplify their leadership skills.

V. OFFICERS

Leadership positions will be established among membership after one year once a consistent and sustainable number is achieved and the overall role of the SAA is fully established.

•President: The President shall be a currently enrolled Saint Rose student and shall provide guidance, direction and support for the organization in pursuit of its goals and objectives. The President shall also have the specific powers to call a general or special meeting and be responsible for presiding over such meetings. The President is responsible for development and the maintenance of a strategic plan in cooperation with the strategic plans of the Alumni Association National Board of Directors and The College of Saint Rose. The SAA President shall report directly to the Director of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving in order to keep them informed, develop ideas, and plan for the senior gift. He or she will also help foster development and implementation of ideas and action plans to be presented to the SAA for various fundraisers and events to stimulate student/campus/community involvement.

•Vice President: The Vice President shall be a currently enrolled student at Saint Rose. The Vice President shall assume the duties of the President in the absence of the President. He or she will also help foster development and implementation of ideas and action plans to be presented to the SAA for various fundraisers and events to stimulate student/campus/community involvement. The Vice President will also be the forbearer of the Senior Class Legacy Gift Initiative specifically addressing fundraising.

•Secretary: The Secretary shall be a currently enrolled Saint Rose student. The Secretary shall keep an accurate record of all formal proceedings. The Secretary shall be responsible for notifying all active members of all meetings and provide copies of the minutes of the previous meeting to all members present at each meeting. The Secretary shall maintain a current membership registry of all members in the SAA. He or she will also help foster development and implementation of ideas and action plans to be presented to the SAA Board of Directors for various fundraisers and events to stimulate student/campus/community involvement.

•Treasurer: The Treasurer shall be a currently enrolled Saint Rose student. The Treasurer shall keep an accurate record of all transactions of the club. This officer shall collect dues where applicable, arrange for payment of debts and keep a current account of the financial status of the organization. All financial transactions must be approved by the SAA President and by the Director of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving. He or she will also help foster development and implementation of ideas and action plans to be presented to the SAA Board of Directors for various fundraisers and events to stimulate student/campus/community involvement.

•President-Elect: The President-Elect who is chosen in the fall semester must work in cooperation with the current president on transfer of power and also the senior class gift. The President-Elect has an obligation to continue duties and gain knowledge of the responsibilities of the president position.

•Immediate Past President: The immediate past president must make a dedication to remain involved in directing the new president. In addition, it is vital that the immediate past president help out with the senior gift to ensure its completion the following semester.


VI. ELECTIONS

No officer may serve more than two consecutive terms (2 years). Elections shall be held each Fall semester prior to the conclusion of that term. Terms run from the first day of spring semester to the last day of fall semester. Nominations shall come from the membership or from the club sponsor at a regular or specially called meeting. New officers shall be determined by a majority vote of the members present. In the case where officers’ posts become vacant due to a cause other than termination by board vote, replacement shall be according to the normal procedure: reelections will be held. In this case, those already holding positions can run and other elections will be held as needed.

VII. CLUB SPONSOR

The SAA shall be sponsored by The College of Saint Rose’s Alumni Association and the Office of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving. SAA club sponsor need not be present at SAA meetings; however, all major decisions affecting the Alumni Association, the College and/or community relations must be advised and approved through the club sponsor first.
