Science Concentrations for Childhood Ed. or Special Ed./Childhood Ed.

Childhood Education (1-6)Early Childhood Education (B-2)Special Education/Childhood Education (1-6), and Special Education/Early Childhood Education (B-2) majors are required to complete an academic concentration of 30-33 credits in a specific discipline. Among the choices available are three science concentrations: biologyearth science, or general science.

Of course, those students that choose a non-science concentrations (American Studies, English/Language Arts, French/Spanish, Mathematics, Social Studies, or Spanish) can still anticipate teaching science. Non-science concentrators in Childhood Education (1-6) and Special Education/Childhood Education (1-6) take a unique 3 course series in science that is specially designed for education students and is centered on problem based learning. Non-science concentrators in Early Childhood Education (B-2) and Special Education/Early Childhood Education (B-2) take science as part of the liberal education requirement.

Transfer students who choose a non-science concentration should consult with their advisor regarding fullfilling their science requirements.
