Teaching Technology or Integrating Technology into the Classroom

Prospective graduate students interested in educational technology as a content area have two degree options at Saint Rose. Students interested in teaching within technology-related fields should apply for the Applied Technology Education (ATE) Program that leads to NYSED certification in Technology Education (K-12). Prospective students who enjoy technology, computers and are interested in ways to integrate computers into classroom and school settings should apply for the Educational Technology Specialist (ETS) Program. This program prepares students for an ETS (K-12) certification that focuses on becoming a technology facilitator.

Educational Technology Specialists prepare to be technology facilitators:

• Teach computer literacy skills
• Assist teachers at integrating technology into classroom instruction
• Design integration activities for classroom teachers
• Design web-based curriculum
• Conduct professional development for faculty, administration and staff
• Understand pedagogy and andragogy as applied to technology integration
• Assist special education teachers with assistive technology devices and computer adaptations
• Assist teachers in moving digital literacy from the media center into the classroom
• Troubleshoot applications, hardware and network glitches
