The College of Saint Rose Summer Jazz Program is beginning its twenty‐sixth season of providing rehearsal and performance opportunities for area high school and junior high musicians. Running from June 26 until August 3, the program is comprised of two jazz ensembles. One band, for students entering grades 7‐9 in the fall, will rehearse every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 6‐8 PM. The other band, for students entering grades 10‐12, will rehearse every Tuesday and Wednesday from 6-8 PM. All rehearsals are held in the College of Saint Rose Massry Center for the Arts. Free public concerts for family and friends will be presented on Sunday, July 15 and Friday, August 3 at 7:00 PM. The Saint Rose Summer Jazz Program, through rehearsals and public performances, provides area school musicians an opportunity to continue developing their musical skills throughout the summer. Students rehearse and perform with other student musicians who share a common interest in jazz and who want to continue improving their musical skills over the summer. Our combination of rehearsals and performances, coupled with opportunities for additional classroom instruction, ensure continued musical growth and development. Students do not have to participate for the entire six weeks. Although consistent attendance is encouraged, many of our participants leave at various points throughout the summer for family vacations and other activities.
Optional Opportunity-Music Industry Master Classes
Saint Rose Summer Jazz participants have an additional opportunity to learn about the art of music recording. Dr. Sean McClowry, a member of the Saint Rose Music Industry faculty, will conduct weekly sessions in the state-of-the-art Saint Rose recording studios. Master classes for students entering grades 7-9 in the fall will take place on Tuesdays from 5:00‐5:50. Master classes for students entering grades 10-12 in the fall will take place on Wednesdays from 5:00‐5:50. The classes will cover many different topics related to the field of sound recording. The ensembles fill up quickly and you are encouraged to register as soon as possible. Tuition for the six-week ensemble program is $350.00. The cost to attend the optional (6) classes is an additional $75. In the event something else comes up prior to the start of the program that prevents you from participating, your tuition will be refunded. Please complete and return the attached application at your earliest convenience. Availability is on a first-come, first-serve basis! On behalf of the Summer Jazz Program at The College of Saint Rose, I look forward to welcoming you to our 2012 program!
