His 280 Topics: Salem Witch Trials - Dr. Bridgett Williams-Searle

This course offered an immersive experience in historical research, methodology, and interpretation. In October, the class visited the town of Salem to gain yet another perspective on the witch hysteria. They visited numerous museums and the National Park Service center, with an eye to understanding how the town itself interpreted its history. As the class explored the town, they discovered both a wealth of information and some unusual silences about what had occurred there that the ordinary tourist probably would not have noticed. The trip continued to provide discussion fodder throughout the semester as the class compared the popular culture understanding of Salem with scholarly interpretations.
