English Students Lead and Serve: Nicole, Amie, and Kait

English Students ServeEnglish-Adolescence Education majors (left to right)  Nicole Stallman, Amie Walter and Kait Rooney certainly put the Saint Rose commitment to service into action and learn leadership skills while they participate. Like many English and English-Adolescence Education majors, they contribute to a wide range of campus commitments and to work raising funds for cancer and serving the homeless and displaced—often during their own vacations.
Nicole spent part of her winter break in Washington, DC, working with the homeless and twice spent her spring break in Florida working with Habitat for Humanity. On campus, she is a Friday Knight volunteer with special needs children, a tutor a St. Anne’s Institute for Girls, and Secretary for Sigma Tau Delta (our English Honor Society).
Amie is an active member of Residence Life, serving as a Resident Assistant. She is a participant in Reach Out Saint Rose every September, and was on the Relay for Life committee.
Kait is extremely active on campus, serving as Student Events Board Chairperson and as an active participant in Students Against Destructive Decisions, Student Association, Relay for Life Committee, Mentor with Help Your Self Academy (one-on-one mentoring with sixth grade Pine Hills students), Student Director for the Urban Launch 2011 (plan and facilitate summer immersion program for incoming Freshmen students based around community service in the Capital District), Orientation Leader for Summer 2011 (facilitate with the Orientation program for Freshmen students). And if that isn’t already impressive, she was also Team Member for Community Service Alternative Spring Break trips to West Palm Beach, Florida (March 2010) and New Orleans, Louisiana (March 2011).
We are proud of the commitment of these three and many other English students who take advantage of the many leadership and service opportunities available at Saint Rose
