Opportunities for English Students to Study Abroad

Students may choose to spend an entire semester abroad or take part in a shorter trip led by a faculty member.

Semester Abroad

Regent's College in London

The English Department developed a study abroad agreement with Regent’s College in London many years ago. This program has been so successful that it has been widened to include students from all departments at The College of Saint Rose. Students who choose to spend a semester at Regent’s College are assured that their credits will count at Saint Rose. They pay the same tuition they would pay here. It is a great opportunity to spend a semester in London in Regent’s Park—near the theatre district and with easy access by public transportation to all parts of London and England. Classes usually aren’t held on Fridays so that students can, if they wish, take advantage on the student-friendly travel opportunities in the European Union to visit many other European countries.

Lots of Other Options

Students also have many other options for study abroad. There is a full-time coordinator at the College to help students plan for their courses and to help them prepare for the experience of living in another country. Recently, English majors have studied in Ireland and Australia, to name a few of the popular destinations for study abroad.

What should you do if you wish to study abroad?

  • Let your advisor know as soon as possible so the two of you can plan ahead and chose the best semester academically for you to study abroad.
  • Meet with the Director of International Studies, Ann Wilkening, and follow her helpful directions so that you are ready for this experience and you are sure your cour ses will count toward your degree.

Shorter Trips

ENG 230 Students in LondonSometimes faculty members lead shorter trips. For example, in a three week summer immersion session, Dr. Kathryn Laity led a group of students enrolled in ENG 230 Early British Literature to England to see the modern sites connected with the medieval texts they were reading.
