Dr. David Szczerbacki, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs

David Szczerbacki has been Provost and Vice-President for Academic Affairs at The College of Saint Rose in Albany N.Y. since August 2004, and serves the chief executive function in the absence of the President. Responsible for the quality of all academic programs and for College strategic planning and coordination of strategic plan implementation, Dr. Szczerbacki chaired the 2005-2010 and 2010-2015 strategic process. He also coordinates institutional assessment processess and related (re-)accrediation efforts. He has worked closely with the President in: leading multi-year faculty salary plans, securing an endowed chair in ethics and moral values, and in securing grants and philanthropic gifts to support facilities and programming. In addition, he has initiated: new faculty programs supporting research and curricular innovation, a new program review and development process, a review of the liberal arts core curriculum, and expanded programming in international studies, first year experiences, e-learning and undergraduate research.

He received a Ph.D. in Public Policy Studies from SUNY Buffalo, and both an MA (Urban Systems) and BA (Political Science) from Gannon University. Previous to joining The College of Saint Rose (1981-2004), he served in various capacities at Alfred University: Professor of Management, Dean of the School of Business, Dean of the College of Engineering and Professional Studies, Director of Graduate Programs, and Provost/Vice President for Academic and Statutory Affairs. In addition to his academic career as an educator and administrator, his professional work has focused on the fields of urban and regional planning, economic development, leadership training, environmental management, strategic management, and organization development. This work includes that of professional staff, consultant, researcher, trainer, and community volunteer.
