Borrowing Materials

Borrowing at the Neil Hellman Library

Library materials are checked out, renewed, and returned at the Circulation Desk, located at the entrance to the Neil Hellman Library.

Types of Borrowers: 

Current Saint Rose Students (including CITE students):
*Your College of Saint Rose ID with current validation is required to check out materials.
*You are responsible for anything checked out on your ID.
*The loan period for books is 3 weeks. Several renewals, each for 3 weeks, are allowed.
*You may renew by phone, but please have your ID and the book in hand so the barcode numbers can be verified.
*Fines for overdue books are 10 cents per day.
*Laptops are loaned out for a period of three hours with no renewals and must be used within the library only. If you borrow a laptop keep it within sight at all times, as you are responsible for it.
*Diplomas, registration, and transcripts will be withheld for all students who fail to return books or pay outstanding fines.
*Any books checked out for at least 2 weeks may be recalled upon the request of a holder of a College of Saint Rose ID. Failure to return a recalled book within 7 days will result in a fine of $2.00 per day.
*The Neil Hellman Library has other materials to borrow, including: music CDs, DVDs, videotapes, study room keys, reserve materials, interlibrary loan materials and laptop computers. Saint Rose Students may borrow DVDs/VHS for 2 days, but CITE students may not borrow them.

Saint Rose Faculty/Staff/Professor Emeritus :
May borrow books: until End of the Semester. Must show St Rose ID. (Professor Emeritus will be issued a special ID from the Circulation Desk). Faculty, Staff and Professors Emeritus may borrow DVD/VHS for 2 Weeks. They may not borrow laptops. They may borrow from the Curriculum Library. They will not be charged overdue fines but will be charged for lost or damaged materials from our Library, or for any lost or damaged material borrowed through Interlibrary Loan.

Alumni: 
Must obtain an Alumni Card from the Alumni Office (518-454-5105) and will need to present this card in order to borrow. May borrow books for 3 Weeks. May borrow DVD/VHS for 2 Days. May borrow laptops. May not borrow from the Curriculum Library.

St. Bernard's Students

Must show current St. Bernard's ID in order to borrow. May borrow books: 3 Weeks. St Bernard's students may not borrow laptops. They may not borrow DVDs or VHS tapes. They may not borrow from the Curriculum Library.

DAP Cardholders: 
The College of Saint Rose is a member of the Capital District Library Council's Direct Access Program. People not affiliated with the College of Saint Rose must obtain a Direct Access Program (DAP) card from their home institution in order to borrow materials from the Neil Hellman Library, or request materials through Interlibrary Loan from their home institution. DAP cardholders may borrow books from the Neil Hellman Library for 3 weeks. DAP cardholders may not borrow from the Curriculum Library. They may not borrow laptops. They may not borrow DVDs or VHS tapes.


Borrowing from the Curriculum Library:

You must have a valid College of St. Rose ID to check out any materials from the Curriculum Library. The Curriculum Library does not participate in the Capital District Library Council's Direct Access Program.

Picture Books (EAS); Big Books (BB); Fiction (FIC); Information Books (JUV); Readers; Textbooks (CLB); Kits; NYS Curriculum Guides and Standards(CG) circulate for 2 weeks each. These items may be renewed once, so long as no one else has placed a hold on them. They may be renewed over the phone. (Please have your ID and the barcode of the items you wish to renew when you call to renew). Fines for these items are .10c per day per item.

Circulating Reference Books (CLR) may be checked out for one week only, and may not be renewed. Fines for Circulating Reference Books (CLR) are $1.00 per day per item.
