Study abroad - Need to know

Study abroad opportunities are available for one semester, two semesters, faculty sponsored short-term trips, internships and summer sessions. Students participating in College affiliated programs will be charged the College of Saint Rose Tuition and a study abroad fee rather than the cost indicated in the program’s materials. Please note: If the host study abroad tuition or room and board cost is higher than the College of Saint Rose, the student will pay the higher fee

What are the requirements in order to study abroad

  • Study abroad applicants must have completed their full first year or one complete semester if you are a transfer student prior to studying abroad. First year students may begin the application process at the completion of the first semester of study if you have the necessary GPA.
  • Most study abroad programs require a grade point average of at least 2.5 on a scale of 4.0. Each program may be different – make sure you know if you have the grades to apply.
  • All courses must be pre-approved prior to studying abroad. Students’ should check the undergraduate catalog for the policy of course approval within their major. Students must go to the Registrar’s office for pre-approval of Liberal Education and General Elective Credit Courses – courses in the major and/or concentration must be approved by the Department Chair of the major/concentration.
  • All courses are taken as graded courses. Grades earned at CCIS, CCCS, Regent’s, SACI and University College, Cork are calculated as resident graded credits and will be included in the GPA. Study Abroad courses taken through Non-Saint Rose affiliated programs will transfer in as long as the grades are C- or above (the courses must be graded—NOT Pass/Fail) and the courses do not duplicate courses already taken at Saint Rose.
  • Study abroad applicants should have no prior college policy violations on their record and maintain a good conduct standing.

How does Financial Aid work - for Study Abroad Programs affilated with the College

  • Student pays the current rate for Room & Board at the host program
  • Student is billed by Saint Rose for tuition and certain fees
  • Student billing for room and board will depend on the program the student is accepted to some of the programs students can be billed by the College for room and board - other programs students are required to pay room and board directly to the program of study
  • The flow of aid processing is virtually identical to “resident” student processing
