Gallery Director

Jeanne Flanagan has served as gallery director and adjunct faculty at The College of Saint Rose for more than 25 years. She received her master of fine arts degree in sculpture from Eastern Michigan University, Ypsilanti, and went on to teach sculpture and drawing at colleges in Michigan and New York. In the 1980s, Flanagan organized a large-scale, outdoor sculpture exhibition along a two-mile stretch of the Hudson River in downtown Albany. Afterwards, she moved to New York City and became interim director of the Amos Eno Gallery in SoHo. She also worked in corporate public relations as a writer and archivist. Later, Flanagan served as a free-lance consultant for the The New York State Museum in exhibit design and installation.

She has exhibited sculpture and has been commissioned by galleries, museums and collectors including the Albany Institute of History and Art, Art Omi, Berkshire Botanical Gardens, Berkshire Museum, Chesterwood Museum, C.W. Post Long Island University, Detroit Institute of the Arts; Fairmount Park Horticulture Center–Philadelphia, Munson-Williams-Proctor Museum of Art, Federal Heights, Salt Lake City, Utah; Sculpture Space, Skidmore College, Socrates Sculpture Park, Snug Harbor Cultural Center, Staten Island; Stone Quarry Hill Art Park, and the State University of New York at Fredonia.

In the College's art department, Flanagan has taught a variety of courses including drawing, 3-dimensional concepts, senior seminar and figure sculpture. As gallery director, Flanagan has curated and organized more than 136 solo and group shows and has hosted 76 visiting artists and critics including Christo and Jeanne-Claude, Frances Cape, Susanna Coffey, Leon Golub, Jenny Holzer, Patricia Johanson, April Kingsley, Robert Longo, Duane Michaels, Eleanor Munro, Elizabeth Murray, Judy Pfaff, Woody Pirtle, Larry Poons, Paula Scher, Nancy Spero and more.
