OUR HONOREES
Daniel J. Hogarty, Jr.
Daniel J. Hogarty Jr., retired president and CEO of The Troy Savings
Bank, is a director of the board for First Niagara Financial Group
and president of The Troy Savings Bank Charitable Foundation.
In addition to his banking experience, he currently serves on
a number of boards, including the Saratoga Performing Arts Center,
University at Albany Foundation, New York State Teachers’
Retirement System, and the Harriman Research & Technology
Development Corporation. Mr. Hogarty has also been the recipient
of awards from the Rensselaer County Chamber of Commerce, the
Hudson Mohawk Association, The Business Review Executive of the
Year, the Jewish National Fund, Christian Brothers Academy Distinguished
Alumni Award, and the University at Albany Alumni Foundation;
he and his wife Ellen have shared honors from the LaSalle School,
Catholic Central High School, and the Rensselaer County Historical
Society. Both he and John Nigro have been past recipients of the
Distinguished Citizen Award from the Boy Scouts of America Twin
Rivers Council—a distinction they share with 2007 “A
Community of Excellence” honoree Morris Massry.
John J. Nigro
John J. Nigro is President of the Nigro Companies, a commercial
real estate development company that owns and manages commercial
properties throughout northeastern New York, specializing in retail
shopping centers. Mr. Nigro is a board member and past chair of
the Strategic Initiatives Committee at the Center for Economic
Growth. He serves as a member of the Board of Trustees at Siena
College and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and a board member
of Saratoga Performing Arts Center, Capital Region Youth Tennis
Foundation, Albany Symphony Orchestra, New York State Legislative
Ethics Commission, and the Boy Scouts of America Twin Rivers Council.
He is also a board director and past president of the St. Anne
Institute Foundation, and founding member of the Building Owners
and Managers Association.0
Sister Rose
Regina Smith, CSJ ’50, G’99
Sister Rose Regina Smith, CSJ has been a member of the Saint Rose
family her entire life. Her mother was a member of the College’s
inaugural graduating class in 1924 and her aunt Sister Rita Agnes
Casey, CSJ was one of the College’s founding sisters. Sister
Rose herself is a 1950 graduate of The College of Saint Rose,
also receiving a graduate degree in 1990. She has been a member
of the president’s office staff for 34 years. Sister Rose
epitomizes the mission of Saint Rose, having made an indelible
mark on countless students, parents, faculty, and friends of the
College. A Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet for 55 years, her
ministries have also included high school teaching positions,
a high school vice principal position, and membership on the Provincial
Council of the Albany Province of the Sisters of St. Joseph of
Carondelet.
