Meet Coach Bloomberg
Jeff Bloomberg enters his sixth year as head coach of the women’s
tennis team at The College of Saint Rose. Bloomberg returned to
the program two years ago after previously coaching the men’s
and women’s teams from 1994-97.
The 2006-07 season marked the second for Bloomberg since the 1996-97
campaign, the last year of intercollegiate competition for women’s
tennis before the college discontinued the program. Bloomberg led
the Golden Knights to a 2-13 overall record and a 2-10 mark in league
play.
Bloomberg came to Saint Rose after a two-year stint with both the
men’s and women’s teams at Stevens Institute of Technology.
His 2003-04 women’s squad produced an individual that recorded
17 singles victories, tying the school record for wins in a season.
In his first season at the helm, he guided the men’s team
to a 14-5 mark, earning the Skyline Championship. Bloomberg also
coached the Skyline Conference Player of the Year that season.
Bloomberg was also instrumental in leading the Siena College women’s
tennis program to national prominence during the 2002-03 season.
While at Siena, Bloomberg took a team that had finished 10th in
the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) during the two previous
years to the MAAC Championship Match. The Saints climbed into the
Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s (ITA) national poll as
the 71st ranked team among NCAA I institutions, the first time a
Siena men’s or women’s tennis squad had been ranked
by the ITA nationally and regionally.
Prior to entering the college ranks, Bloomberg was a highly successful
coach at the high school level. He began his coaching career at
Chatham High School where over a three-year span he led the boy’s
tennis team to a 56-10 record. That mark includes leading the squad
to an undefeated season and a sectional championship.
Two out of the three years he spent at Chatham, Bloomberg doubled
as the girl’s tennis coach at Columbia High School. While
at Columbia, Bloomberg took a program that had not won more than
one match the previous season to the sectional quarterfinals.
Bloomberg is a USPTA Certified Teaching Professional and recently
earned recognition from the association as a Level I Participant.
He currently resides in Chatham, NY with his wife Joan.
