Meet Coach Ross
Jessica Ross is in her fifth season as the head coach of The College
of Saint Rose softball team. She was hired on October of 2003 and
is the fifth coach in the history of the Golden Knights program,
which dates back to 1979.
Ross led the 2007 squad to a 16-22 overall record and an 11-17
mark in league play. With only three seniors on last year’s
roster, 17 players will return to the 2008 squad. Ross has played
a vital role in the development of senior right-hander Kristen Calahan,
who is just 28 strikeouts away from becoming the all-time leader
at the College.
Ross had a highly successful first season in 2004 at Saint Rose,
as she led the team to its most wins since 1997. The Golden Knights
also enjoyed its best season in Northeast-10 Conference play since
joining the league in 2001. The 2006 club went 10-30 with a roster
that listed 13 of its 17 players as either freshmen or sophomores.
As for her own collegiate playing career, Ross was a member of
the Binghamton University softball team from 1997-2000. She compiled
a career pitching record of 35-19 with a 1.73 ERA throughout 356.0
innings of work. Ross’ 35 wins represented the fourth highest
total in school history while her 64 appearances were ranked fifth
in Binghamton annals at the time of her graduation. She also posted
a .257 career batting average and knocked in 25 runs.
Ross earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
at Binghamton in 2000 and collected her master’s in the same
field at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2003. She is currently
employed as an electrical engineer at Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory
in nearby Niskayuna.
