Karen Fischer is in her second year directing the Golden Knights respected athletics training program. Fischer supervises an assistant certified trainer, three graduate assistants and 20 student interns who handle the treatment and prevention of injuries in addition to the physical therapy program for the College's 220 student-athletes and 15 intercollegiate programs. She also manages medical appointments, which include physician visits, diagnostic procedures and feedback to the coaching staff. A certified athletic trainer according to the NATABOC requirements, Fischer is a member of the National Athletics Trainers Association (NATA) and is certified by the Red Cross in CPR/AED. She comes to Saint Rose having served as a clinical athletic trainer at The Center for Sports Medicine in Schenectady, NY since 2002. She also worked as the head trainer for Schalmont High School for four years, providing injury evaluation, assessment and rehabilitation services for the athletics program. Fischer graduated Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in athletic training and exercise science from Hope College (MI) in May, 2002. She earned four varsity letters as a member of the Hope women’s swimming and diving team and was a team captain. She was awarded the Outstanding Major of the Year Award following her senior campaign. |
