How many students attend
Saint Rose?
With more than 5,000 students enrolled at Saint Rose, 3,000
of whom are undergraduates, we have seen a great deal of growth
over the last several years. Our freshman applications have
increased by more than 90% since 2002. And, although we have
enjoyed such growth, we are now looking to maintain our size.
Over the last few years we have welcomed freshman classes
of over 600 students. With our applications and inquiry pool
running much higher than past years, our focus will continue
to be selectivity.
Where do Saint Rose students
come from?
National surveys state that most students enroll at a college
within 1-3 hours away from home and Saint Rose students follow
the national trend. Although most of our students are from
the Northeast, our student body represents 27 states and 18
countries. We currently have students from as far away as
Los Angeles, New Orleans, Washington State, Japan and Bulgaria!
What is there to do at
Saint Rose?
Saint Rose is located in the capital of New York state, so
there are many things on- and off-campus to discover. More
than 60,000 college students call the Albany
area home during the academic year.
Saint Rose brings a variety of comedians and bands to campus
and offers many different activities for students. There are
over 30 clubs on-campus, some of which are academic, such
as the Psychology and English Clubs. Other clubs include numerous
social organizations such as musical performing groups, the
drama program, campus newspaper, and the College literary
magazine. The Student
Association, our student governing body, and the Student
Events Board plan all of the big events, such as semi-formals
and trips.
In addition to Saint Rose athletic events, there also are
sporting events that take place at the Pepsi
Arena in downtown Albany, just minutes from the Saint
Rose campus. The Pepsi Arena also is one of the premier concert
venues in the northeast. If you like to shop, Crossgates Mall
is the third largest mall in the state and is only five minutes
away from our campus. Albany is home to numerous festivals,
parks, museums, and theatres. If you're interested in road
trips, you can explore both the Catskill and Adirondack mountain
regions, which are nearby. The possibilities are endless!
Are there opportunities
for study
abroad?
At Saint Rose, you can experience a world-class education
by studying in one of more than 30 countries made possible
by the Colleges affiliations with the College
Consortium for International Studies (CCIS), the Center
for Cross-Cultural Study, and Regents
College in London. All study abroad opportunities are
offered at the same price as Saint Rose tuition (plus airfare
and personal expenses) including your Saint Rose financial
aid package. All credits will count toward your degree.
Are there opportunities
for community service?
The Saint Rose offices of Community
Service and Campus
Ministry sponsor a variety of volunteer opportunities-from
a few hours at local and out-of-state Habitat for Humanity
project sites such as Miami and New Orleans, to a full week
at a soup kitchen in Washington, D.C. A large network of local
agencies provides students with ample opportunities to give
back to the community in which they live, study and learn.
As a freshman, where
will I live on campus?
Am I required to live on campus?
86% of our first-year students
live in one of our freshman dormsBrubacher Hall
and Lima Hallboth of which are coed. Freshman housing
is assigned randomly after May 1. Roommate selection and matching
is completed after you submit your Residence Life housing
forms. Although we do not require students to live on campus,
it is a crucial aspect to their overall success.
Where
will I live after my freshman year?
The residence options you can choose from are: suite-style
or townhouse-style residence halls or one of our 30 Victorian
homes. Click
here for Residence Life.
Do I need to bring a computer
with me?
Not necessarily. We have 19 computer
labs on-campus, some of which are open 24 hours a day. However,
you are welcome to bring a computer from home and hook it
right up to the College's T-1 network. Over the last few years,
more than 80% of freshmen have brought computers with them
when moving on-campus and 90% of resident students bring computers
to campus. Recently, in conjunction with IBM, the College
invested more than $7
million in a campus-wide technology upgrade, making the
Saint Rose network one of the fastest of all 16 colleges in
the Capital Region.
Can freshman have cars?
Freshmen resident students are not allowed
to purchase an on-campus parking permit their first year.
As a Saint Rose student, however, your Saint Rose ID also
serves as a CDTA bus pass enabling you to ride most of the
Capital District bus routes for FREE!
Students who live off campus are eligible to purchase a campus
parking
permit.
How is the food?
Excellent! Starbucks and Quiznos are now available on campus
and recently, we completely remodeled our Food Service area
establishing different stations available at every meal, including
a made-to-order pasta bar, sandwich bar, grilled food and
vegetarian options. Special dietary needs can be addressed
by our food service team, ARAMARK.
What is the high school
academic profile of your average first-year student?
Our average first-year student has an academic high school
average in college preparatory coursework of a solid B/B+
(88-90) and is in the mid-50th percentile of the SAT range
(1010-1200). The average student ranks in the top 50% of their
class.
What if I don't have these
scores?
We do have a special admit program for a very select number
of students who have shown serious interest in The College
of Saint Rose by coming to campus for a tour, interview or
open house. The profile of these students is very strong,
but perhaps missing strength in one area (standardized tests,
for example). These students are typically highly motivated
and Saint Rose is usually their number one choice. Learn
more about this program.

Rose accept University in High School Program and/or AP Credits?

How does the Admission
Committee make its
decision?
Like all colleges, we are looking for solid academic students
and we can gather that information from your transcripts and
standard test scores.
Through your essay, letters of recommendation and, perhaps,
your interview, we are able to gather the information we seek
that doesn't come in the form of a grade or test score. Our
goal is to enroll future Saint Rose graduates who posses the
following characteristics:
Students who are willing to take responsibility for their
own education;
Students who want to take advantage of the opportunities
the College will provide;
Students who are critical thinkers and learners; and
Students who feel a commitment to Saint Rose and our community.
