At The College of Saint Rose, we understand that with so many choices
and options available to you it can be difficult to decide which
major you want to pursue. As an incoming student, Saint Rose has
a program that will assist you as you make this important decision
by providing support and guidance. Its called the Exploratory
Program.
SAINT ROSE DIFFERENCE
Summer Overnight Advisement
Visit
During the Summer Overnight Advisement Visit, you will be introduced
to faculty members from each academic department who will discuss
their respective program requirements and the career options available
to students in each major. You also will attend workshops on selecting
a major and the issues involved in balancing preferences, employment
opportunities and career flexibility. A similar session is held
for parents of students in the Exploratory Program.
Community Involvement
100 (CIN 100)
CIN 100 is the unique Community Involvement option that allows students
enrolled in the Exploratory Program the flexibility of earning credit
for experiences gained through volunteer service. Students may earn
up to six academic credits for supervised volunteer experiences
conducted either on- or off-campus. Each credit hour requires 40
hours of volunteer service and students may register for courses
which earn 1-3 credit hours each semester.
EXP 100
As a student enrolled in the Saint Rose Exploratory Program, you
will complete EXP 100, a one-credit course designed to help students
begin the process of exploring their academic options and ultimately,
choosing a major.
OUR MENTORING FACULTY
As an Exploratory student, you will be assigned a faculty advisor
who will guide you as you investigate the Colleges 38 academic
programs. Exploratory Program advisors are selected just for this
program and have been trained to meet the needs of students undecided
in their major choice. In addition to being an advisor, these faculty
members serve as valuable contacts for employment after graduation
and become mentors to the students they advise.
SERVICES FOR STUDENTS
Discover the Possibilities
Through a computer program called Discover, available at the Saint
Rose Career Development Center, you can learn about career planning
by comparing information about yourself with various occupations.
Discover is a comprehensive, computer-assisted career guidance and
information system designed to assess interests, rate abilities,
evaluate experiences and prioritize values in order to identify
compatible occupations.
The Learning Center
and The Writing Center
The Colleges Learning Center is a resource that most Saint
Rose students take advantage of at one time or another during their
college careers. The Learning Center offers workshops on a variety
of topics including study skills and time management and also makes
tutoring services available if needed. Located within the Learning
Center, the Writing Center helps students develop their skills through
sessions conducted on an individual basis. Tutors assist students
with all stages of the writing process from selecting a research
topic to working through the final editing stage.
