  Science Department

If your interest is science, The College of Saint Rose will equip you to enter an ever-changing job market. Your education will include training in the rigors of science balanced with a liberal arts education and exposure to a variety of interesting lab and research experiences. The College's 27,000 square foot Science Center, which opened in 1992, houses classrooms, faculty offices, well-equipped laboratories and research facilities that enable students to make the most of their Saint Rose education.

  • Biology majors may choose to specialize in basic biology, biology/cytotechnology,
    or secondary education/biology. (
  • Chemistry majors may choose to specialize in basic chemistry or secondary education/chemistry.
  • Biochemistry majors study the link between chemistry and biology.
  • Medical technology majors complete a one-year clinical internship at Rochester General Hospital or Berkshire Medical Center Hospital.
  • Environmental affairs majors experience a partnership of studies in environmental sciences, business, economics, public policy and communications. This program couples the concerns of preserving the environment with realistic business interests.
  • Elementary education majors may choose concentrations in biology, earth sciences and general science.

  • Occupational Therapy majors obtain a bachelor's degree in any major from Saint Rose and then complete an additional two years at Sage Graduate School in Albany to obtain a Masters of Science Program in Occupational Therapy.
  • Physical Therapy majors obtain a bachelor's degree in any major from Saint Rose and then complete an additional three years at Sage Graduate School in Albany to obtain a Doctorate in Physical Therapy.

In particular, the Biology program at The College of Saint Rose is designed to train students for a successful career in varied areas of the biological science. Saint Rose Biology majors explore the dimensions of many living systems. Pre-college students searching for a program which provides an excellent preparation for laboratory work, research, teaching, medical school, veterinary medical school, graduate studies and a variety of other biologically-related fields will find that the Biology programs at The College of Saint Rose are the answer to their search. Small classes, an emphasis on experimental work through laboratory experience, and time for each student to work with scientific equipment characterize the program.
