Physical Therapists provide services to patients and clients of all ages. Through a comprehensive process of examination, evaluation, diagnosis, prognosis, intervention and outcome assessment, Physical Therapists provide care to patients to alleviate impairments and functional limitations, disabilities, or changes in physical function and health status resulting from injury, disease or other causes. Physical therapists also have an active role in consultation, education, critical inquiry, administration and supervision of physical therapy services as well as provision of prevention and wellness services, including screening and health promotion. Physical Therapists interact and practice in collaboration with a variety of professionals, including nurses, physicians, educators, social workers, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, audiologists and dentists.

MAJORS
You can major in any one of the majors offered at The College of Saint Rose. In addition to your requirements for your major, you will also take the courses needed in the Physical Therapy program track so you can get into the Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT) at Sage Graduate School after your graduation from Saint Rose, We do recommend our science programs (Biology, Biochemistry or Chemistry) as a major that will provide you a strong foundation for your bachelor's degree.

THE 4 + 3 PROGRAM
The 4 + 3 program means that you take four years of classes at The College of Saint Rose to obtain your Bachelor's degree in any major that you choose. After your acceptance into the DPT program at Sage Graduate School you will complete the additional three years to obtain your Doctorate in Physical Therapy.

ADVISEMENT
The College of Saint Rose will provide you with an advisor for your chosen major as well as an advisor for the physical therapy program track. You will meet with both of your advisors at least once a semester to track your progression in the program. The current advisor for this program is:

ARTICULATION AGREEMENT & REQUIREMENTS
The College of Saint Rose and The Sage Colleges have developed a collaborative articulation agreement to provide qualified students from Saint Rose who wish to pursue a Clinical Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT) from Sage Graduate School (SGS) guaranteed admission as indicated below. This collaborative agreement provides for:

• Automatic acceptance into Sage Graduate School for students who have completed physical therapy program course prerequisites, after initial advisement and interview, and with completed application;
• Waiver of Sage Graduate School application fee;
• Early acceptance;
• Cross-registration through the Consortium in courses during the senior year (no fees in addition to St. Rose College registration);
• Advisement to coordinate undergraduate electives and coursework to reduce or eliminate prerequisites in the graduate program;
• Opportunity to apply early for Graduate Assistantships in Sage Graduate School

Terms of Agreement:
Physical Therapy Admission
Saint Rose students will be guaranteed admission to Sage Graduate School for the DPT degree, who demonstrate the following:

• Earned a baccalaureate degree
• Minimum overall 3.0 GPA
• Minimum science GPA of 3.0 (Anatomy & Physiology I & II; Physics I & 2;
  Chemistry I & II, Cell Biology, and Exercise Physiology)
• Completion of physical therapy program prerequisite courses with grades
  C or better (see prerequisite courses listed below)

To guarantee placement in the PT Program, students agree to submit
the following information:
By January 1 of the year preceding graduation from the The College of Saint Rose:

• Completed Sage Graduate School application packet (fee waived)
• Official transcripts from all college institutions attended
• Current resume
• One letter of recommendation from The College of Saint Rose health advisor
  or equivalent faculty representative

By October 15 of the graduation year at The College of Saint Rose:

• Clinical Observation Document: 40 hours of clinical observation
  with a physical therapist

Upon graduation from The College of Saint Rose:

COURSEWORK
The following Saint Rose courses meet Sage Graduate School OT Program prerequisites:

DPT LICENSURE
Students must be graduates of a Physical Therapy Program accredited by CAPTE in order to be eligible to take the National Physical Therapy Licensing Exam. Graduates of Sage's Doctor of Physical Therapy Program are eligible to sit for the licensure exam. Each state's licensing board has rules and regulations concerning the requirements for licensure application. All states require that candidates apply for licensure prior to becoming employed. The Doctor of Physical Therapy Program will provide you with the addresses of each state's licensing board. When a physical therapist moves from state to state, licensure by endorsement is exercised. Over the last 3 years students in Sage's PT program have had a 97% pass rate, which is higher than the New York State and National averages. For more information, go to www.fsbpt.org

CAREERS
Physical Therapists work in a variety of practice settings, including hospitals, outpatient clinics or offices, rehabilitation facilities, skilled nursing, extended care or sub-acute facilities, home, education or research centers, schools and playgrounds (preschool, primary and secondary schools), hospices, corporate or industrial health centers, industrial work place or other occupational environments, athletic facilities (collegiate, amateur, and professional), fitness centers and sports training facilities.
