Teacher Education
(Master of Science
in Education)
This program is designed to provide a
masters degree leading to permanent or professional teaching
certification under New York state requirements. Education
courses teach students how to interpret and synthesize educational
research. Our 43 graduate programs offer students a wide variety
of electives to choose from for this degree.
If you do not currently hold a provisional teaching
certification, you should enroll in either the elementary, secondary,
special education, art or music education masters degree programs,
depending on your teaching goals.

of our faculty who are accomplished scholars in their fields and
have many years of classroom and administrative experience in
a
variety of school settings. Faculty regularly collaborate with
local schools on special projects and have contacts with school
districts across the country.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
complete Saint Rose graduate school application
a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution
official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended
a grade point average of 3.0 in your undergraduate major
initial certification in elementary education, secondary education,
special education, art or music education
international applicants must submit English translations and
evaluations of transcripts prepared by the college/university
of origin or by a professional independent transcript evaluator,
and a TOEFL score showing a minimum of 550 on the written or 213
on the computer-based exam.

Research Seminar and Comprehensive Examination or Thesis
A choice of two courses in the study of Schooling and Society
selected from the following:
Multicultural Education in the United States
Educating for Morality
The Sociology of Education
The History of American Education
9-12 credits of elective course work
You can select these electives to create a focus area (i.e., teaching
and learning, educational technology, educational foundations
or an academic discipline such as English or history/political
science)
FINAL EVALUATION
Final evaluation is based on two criteria:
satisfactory performance in course work including a grade
of B or better in all required courses
satisfactory performance in the research seminar and comprehensive
examination or completion of thesis approved by College thesis
committee
STATE CERTIFICATION
This program satisfies the education course work requirements for
professional certification as an elementary school, secondary school,
special education, music, or art teacher in New York state. All
teachers also must pass the appropriate state professional certification
exam in order to receive professional certification.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Secondary education or elementary education teacher (depending on
initial certification) in public or private schools.
