(Advanced Certificate)

Curriculum (5 courses, 15 credits)
The 15-credit Advanced Certificate in Not-For-Profit Management offered through The College of Saint Rose provides not-for-profit professionals with the formal training and credentials needed to move ahead in their careers. The certificate fulfills the education requirement for the Certified Association Executive comprehensive examination sponsored by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) and covers five major content areas: governance and structure, leadership process, management and administration, internal and external relations, and programs and services. The minimum length of time to complete the program is one calendar year including Fall, Spring and Summer sessions.

Who Should Apply
The Advanced Certificate in Not-For-Profit Management is ideal for:

  • New graduates and experienced business professionals with a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university looking to earn a stand-alone advanced certificate with the option of applying the 15-credit certificate to the 45-credit M.B.A. Plus
  • Saint Rose and other M.B.A. program graduates seeking to add a specialization to their degrees

Admissions Requirements
At a minimum, an applicant must possess a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Applications require a Statement of Purpose, current resume, and all official academic transcripts. The minimum admission requirement is an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher. Applicants with an undergraduate GPA below 3.0 are required to submit GMAT scores.

Required Courses
MBA 531 Not-For-Profit Accounting (3)
Account issues for not-for-profit entities such as health care organizations, voluntary health and welfare organizations, and colleges and universities are studied. The course will also address topics such as fund structures and the use of financial information to manage the organizations.

MBA 517 Organizational Motivation,
Leadership and Design (3)

An examination of the theoretical bases of individual, group, and organizational processes. Emphasis will be on the analysis of various business situations and the application of theory to the practical resolution of individual, team and organizations issues. Topics include: cognitive processes and biases, managing diversity, group processes, individual and group decision-making techniques, motivation, leadership, power, and organization culture, design, and change.

MBA 635 Marketing for Customer Satisfaction (3)
A graduate survey of the study and application of the entire marketing process stressing corporate decision-making in marketing via the use of extensive case analysis. Topic include: marketing strategy planning and implementation in the not-for-profit, international business, and service sectors. Other subject include product management, pricing and promotional programs, distribution systems, and the integration of these for effective marketing management.

MBA 684 Fundraising (3)
This survey course will cover fundraising for not-for-profit organizations and will assist in the development of strategic plans for fundraising that may include annual giving, corporate donations, special events, planned giving, and grant writing.

MBA 685 Strategic Management: Not-For-Profit (3)
This survey course is designed to integrate client and/or customer satisfaction, organization design, and the financial aspects of strategic decision making in the not-for-profit organization. General topics include: strategic analysis of internal and external environments, development of strategic policies and the implementation and control of strategic plans. Prerequisite: all other certificate courses must be completed or taken concurrently.
