Mission Statement:
The Office of Academic Advising supports the educational mission
of The College of Saint Rose by providing an integrated program
of effective academic advising that assists students to develop
and implement sound educational plans consistent with the student’s
person values, goals and career plans. Through a collaborative
mentoring relationship with advisors, students are empowered to
take charge of their academic progress, and become self-directed
leaders and decision makers.

Changing
your Major/Minor
Students who wish to change their
major or minor need to fill out a Change of Major form. After
filled out, please return the form to the Office of Academic Advising.
This
form can be downloaded here.
Changing your major is a big decision to
make on your own. If you have specific questions about how your
current academic credits will fit in to your new major, please
stop by the Office of Academic Advising for assistance.
Should you have questions regarding
your career options in your new major, please contact The
College of Saint Rose Career Center.
Changing
your Advisor
As a Saint Rose student, you have
the right to change your advisor for any reason. If you wish to
change your advisor, please
fill out the form which can be found here. Please return the
completed form to the Office of Academic Advising.
Resumption
of Study
Students in good academic standing
who have officially withdrawn or who have not attended the College
for a period of one year must complete a Resumption of Study form.
Students who resume study will follow the degree requirements
in the catalog that is in effect at the time of resumption. Please
return the completed form to the Office of Academic Advising.

Understanding
academic procedures, policies and requirements/Assessing your
academic progress
The first person you should go to
for help assessing your academic progress and understanding your
requirements is your Academic Advisor. If you can not get in touch
with your advisor, please feel free to stop by our office and
someone will be happy to assist you.
Making
the best of your advisor/advisee relationship.
The College of Saint Rose is strongly
committed to the intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual
development of our students. Your faculty advisor is available
for discussions about programs of study and career options, among
other topics. Please note that it is your advisor's responsibility
to guide and counsel. It is your responsibility to make final
decisions. If you have questions regarding your advisor assignment,
please contact the Academic Advising office at 518-454-5217.
The Academic Advising office is located in the Student Services
complex in the Campus Center.
The following suggestions are offered
to help enhance your advising relationship and experience with
your advisor:

Take the initiative to
keep in touch with your advisor.

Your advisor will post
office hours each semester.

Make and keep appointments
or call if it is necessary to change or cancel an appointment.
Your advisor will keep appointments or contact you if it becomes
necessary to change or cancel an appointment.

Prepare written notes
of the questions and concerns that you would like to address.
Your advisor will be available to discuss classes, study habits,
academic progress, etc., and will help you explore options.

Ask questions regarding
policies or procedures that you may not understand. Your advisor
will listen to you and help you find solutions.

Ask questions to help
make decisions concerning careers, choice of major, and selections
of courses.

Your advisor will help
you to explore options and provide you with resources concerning
careers, choice of major, or course selection.

Familiarize yourself with your advisor's office
hours and make an appointment during these hours.

If it is necessary to stop in without an appointment,
allow yourself sufficient time in the event that you
must wait.

To change your advisor, you must visit the Academic Advising office located in the Student Services complex of
the Campus Center. A change of advisor form must be completed.
How to make the best use of the time with your advisor....

Be Prepared

Read and become familiar with the catalog and
your program.

Review the course listing and choose courses
BEFORE your advisement appointment.

Also choose alternative classes in case of close
outs.

Ask clarifying questions until you understand.

Retain copies of schedule forms, progress reports,
evaluations, receipts, and other important documents in a file.
Most importantly....Be Prepared!
Student Responsibilities for Academic Advising

Discuss your long-range goals with your advisor.

Discuss your choice of major with your advisor.

Make final decisions about choices concerning
academic matters.

Be able and willing to ask intelligent questions
about your degree program.

Know the requirements for your major.

Keep your advisor informed of changes in schedules,
academic problems, change of major, etc.

Make regular appointments with your advisor
and seek help when needed.

Keep advisement appointments, be on time, and
BE PREPARED.

Gather all decision making information before
advisement appointments.

Follow through when you are referred to another
office or person.
-
Accept responsibility for decisions and academic
choice.
