Graduate Survey Report &
Supplement with Additional Outcome Information
Class of 2006
The Career Center resumed the responsibility of the College’s
Graduate Survey and Report, beginning with the Class of 2006 (August
’05, December ’05 and May ‘06). The purpose of
this project was to collect employment and graduate/professional
school outcome information and to solicit feedback from graduates
about their educational experience.
A total of
1,795 graduates from the Class of 2006 were uploaded from Banner,
the College’s Student Information System. However, 193 graduates
were deemed unreachable because of inaccurate or missing contact
information.* After implementing a variety of outreach efforts,
including several mailings of a newly designed self-mailer, utilization
of “mystrose” e-mail and on-line survey options, as
well as thousands of follow-up phone call attempts, 369 of the remaining
1,602 graduates responded to the survey. This is a response rate
of 23%. Of those that responded, 5% responded on-line, 26% through
hard-copy mailings, 69% through our phone outreach.
To supplement
graduate outcome information, we utilized information already available
in Banner and reached out to faculty, administrators, and staff
asking them to share employment and graduate school outcome information
for non-respondents. This resulted in employment and graduate/professional
school information for an additional 369 graduates, a total of 738
of the 1,602 graduates with contact information. This is a response
rate of 46%.

Unfortunately, because of a college policy, our bulk mailings were
sent without a return to sender option so mailings that had incorrect
or forwarding expired status were discarded by the post office.
Since we never received the undeliverable mailings, there is no
way to determine the number of graduates that did not receive the
survey.
Based on this
year’s experience we have several recommendations for future
Graduate Surveys. For the Class of 2007, we plan to review the survey
and timeline, send mailings with return to sender/forwarding expired
options, utilize eCareerCenter for e-mail, on-line survey and placement
reporting from Career Center employers, and continue to collect
outcome information for non-respondents from Banner, faculty, administrators
and staff. For the Class of 2008, we hope to receive support to
integrate the Graduate Survey into the graduation process which
would increase the response for questions related to the satisfaction
of the educational experience and allow us to collect preliminary
outcome information that could be verified and/or updated during
a year out follow-up process.
This report
is a result of the efforts of many individuals. We wish to extend
our appreciation to the members of the Class of 2006, the College’s
faculty, administrators and staff, Alumni Relations & Institutional
Advancement, Information Technology Services, Public Relations,
as well as the Career Center’s staff, graduate assistants
and work study students. A special thank you to Danielle Ruddy for
her assistance on this project.
