Parent Orientation

Welcome parents! The schedule for our 2008 Parent Orientation is finalized.

We at the College of Saint Rose are excited to meet and spend time with new and prospective parents.

What to expect at your Parent Orientation:
  • You will spend an intensive two days learning about how you can be a resource to your student at The College of Saint Rose. (Be ready to take a lot notes and ask questions)
  • You will get your own specifically designed, Parent Handbook as a reference
  • You will attend many workshops around campus (Dress to be comfortable and wear your walking shoes, as not all workshops are in the same building)
  • Informational Marketplace
    • Meet with on-campus offices and pick up information
    • Meet with off-campus businesses and get information
    • Ask LOTS of questions
    • Opt-out of the student insurance plan (bring your insurance card)
  • You will be provided with breakfast (both days) and lunch (day 1 only) with coffee, water and snacks throughout the day
  • You will leave the College at the end of the day, but your student will spend the night (a whole team is there to take care of them, so go relax and have a fantastic dinner)
  • You may meet up with your student for breakfast on day 2
  • If you need to make appointments with Financial Aid, Bursar or other on-campus offices, now is the time! Visit their tables at the marketplace

 


 

Summer Parent Orientation 2008 Schedule

Day 1

Parent Only Check-In
8:30 a.m. in the Events and Athletics Center, Atrium
If your student DID NOT take the math placement exam over the summer there will be a 7:30 a.m. check in.

Continental Breakfast
Join us for a light breakfast to get you ready for a full day of Saint Rose passion.

Welcome and Introductions
Begin your Saint Rose experience with a passionate welcome and overview of our orientation program.

Resources for Parents
Learn the purpose of the Office of Parent Relations and the knowledge they can provide you with.

Embracing and Understanding the Academic Culture
Learn about the academic knowledge your student will experience and meet each of our School Deans.

An Introduction to the Academic Support Center
Experience the resources available to students through our passionate academic support center.

Luncheon
Join us for a buffet style lunch in the main dining room.

Information Marketplace
Visit with our knowledgeable campus and community resource professionals. Get lots of FREEBIES!

Safety in Cyber Communities
Learn what students think is the purpose of MySpace and Facebook and how you, as a parent, can educate them on privacy.

Informational Technology Services
Learn the knowledge your student will need to use our technology resources.

Learning to Live on Campus
Catch a glimpse of the residential college experience while learning about the purpose for policies and procedures.

Learn how to best support your commuting student and discover what services Saint Rose offers to help your commuters be passionate about being a Saint Rose student.

Express Campus Tour
Join us for a walking tour designed just for parents to gain the knowledge needed to visualize our residence halls and/or academic buildings.

We welcome you to meet with our passionate Saint Rose administrators, faculty, and staff for conversation while enjoying complimentary refreshments.

 

Day 2

Continental Breakfast

Your Student’s Solution
Let our knowledgeable staff assist you in navigating the work of the bursar, financial aid and registrar offices.

Realities of Campus Life: Difficult Decisions, Difficult Conversations
This session will be an open discussion for parents and students together about the impact on alcohol and drugs on a college campus and the alternative choices many Saint Rose students have a passion for.

Neighborhood Watch
Learn the knowledge about campus safety, personal safety, and crime prevention.

Experience Campus Offices
Each office on campus has a purpose and this is the time to forward your questions to our representatives.

Realities of Student Life: The Inside Story
Now one has more passion and knowledge about The College of Saint Rose then students. This panels’ purpose is to candidly discuss life as a Saint Rose student.
