Calendar of Events Fall 2007 October September 7 - October 11: Art and Design Faculty Show Recent work including drawing, painting, sculpture, graphic design, photography, and printmaking by current members of the art faculty. Closed Columbus Day, October 4. A reception for this event will be held on Friday, September 7th from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. (Location: Picotte Hall) Thursday, October 4 at 7:30 p.m: Saint Rose Wind Ensemble in Fall Concert The College of Saint Rose Wind Ensemble will present “In Remembrance, Luciano Pavarotti,” a Columbus Day concert that will feature all Italian-inspired music; Free and open to the public. Thursday, October 4 at 7:30 p.m: Frequency North Visiting Writer Series David Lehman, award-winning poet and critic; Free and open to the public. (Location: Events an Athletics Center, Standish Conference Room 2) Friday, October 19 at 7:30 p.m.: Saint Rose, Empire State Youth Jazz Ensembles in Concert The College of Saint Rose Jazz Ensemble and Empire State Youth Jazz Ensemble will present their first concert of the academic year featuring big band jazz from the late 1920s to the present. (Location: Saint Joseph Hall Auditorium) Admission is $6 for adults, $3 for students and seniors, and free with a College of Saint Rose I.D. October 21 - December 2: Isidro Blasco (The Middle of the End) Three-dimensional, photographic constructions document the artist's Jackson Heights apartment and neighborhood in Gueens, New York. These include collages of personal spaces, building facades, the subway and mundane street scenes that reveal a growing concern for the current political climate and a reaction to the nightly news Closed Thanksgiving break, November 21-25. A reception for this event will be held on Friday, October 26th from 5:00 - 6:30 p.m. Artist's Talk: Friday, October 26, 7:00 p.m. (Location: Picotte Hall) Tuesday, October 23, 11:45-1:00 p.m: CREST Colloquium with Dr. Jeff Marlett, CREST Residential Fellow, 2007-2008, Philosophy & Religious Studies Department, “Winners and Losers: Catholics and Establishing the Limits of American Competitiveness.” (Location: Standish Conference Room 4, Events and Athletics Center) Friday, October 26 at 7:30 p.m.: Camerata Concert II Paul Evoskevish, saxophone Young Kim, piano Yvonne Chavez Hansbrough, flute Program: Divertiment for flute and sax by Arma Sonata for flute and piano by Prokofiev; Sonata for saxophone and piano by Heiden Saturday, October 27 at 7:30 p.m.: The Bad Plus in Concert The Bad Plus has exploded all notions of what a jazz piano trio should sound like – whether at outdoor rock festivals, jazz clubs or symphony halls. The Los Angeles Times ranked the trio "among the leaders of what might be called the Nu Jazz movement." Newsweek declared their 2005 release "Suspicious Activity?" to be "among the freshest sounding albums of the year." According to Rolling Stone, "By any standard, jazz or otherwise, this is mighty, moving music … hot players with hard-rock hearts." Admission is $12 for adults and $5 for students.
