As a Psychology major
at The College of Saint Rose, it wont be long before
you realize that the Saint Rose Psychology program is different
from similar programs at other colleges. At Saint Rose, not
only will you develop a strong foundation in the fundamentals of
psychology, but you also will have the flexibility to pursue specialized
areas of interest. In addition, Saint Rose students run an active
Psychology Club and top students are inducted into the Psi Chi Honor
Society.
THE SAINT ROSE DIFFERENCE
As an undergraduate, having the opportunity to specialize in a particular
area of psychology that interests you will prove invaluable when
it comes time to select a graduate program. There are several areas
of psychology in which you may specialize at Saint Rose, including
behavioral neuroscience, clinical/counseling psychology, family studies, health psychology, and industrial/organizational psychology. We offer a
number of cutting-edge courses such as Parenting: Psychological Theory and Research,
Kids and Teens/Life and Death, Forgetting & Amnesia, Psychology of Love, and Human Sexuality.
OUR MENTORING FACULTY
Simply put, the success of our program is largely based on the quality
of our faculty and their mentoring relationships with students.
In the psychology department, it isnt unusual for students
and faculty members to attend a conference together and give presentations
on their research findings. Following are additional ways in which the psychology
faculty enriches the learning experience of its students:
-
Drs. Kathleen Crowley and Donna Reittinger direct several
internships and independent studies each year;
-
Dr. Ann Zak works with up to five students per semester in
research on trust and love in intimate relationships;
-
Dr. Nancy Dorr serves as advisor to the Psychology Club
and the Psi Chi Honor Society; and
-
Dr. Robert Flint is the coordinator of the Department's Behavioral and Cognitive Neuroscience Research Laboratory.
FIELD EXPERIENCE
Another valuable aspect of the Saint Rose psychology program is
the hands-on experience that students receive through internships
and independent studies. Supervised internships are available to
junior and senior level students who achieve at least a 2.75 GPA
and receive the permission of the department. Recent field placements
include:
- Capital District Psychiatric Center
- New York State Police
- Samaritan Hospital Suicide Crisis Hotline
- Catholic Maternity Services
- St. Peters Hospice
CAREERS
A bachelors degree in psychology prepares students for a
wide variety of career fields including, but not limited, to health
care, preschool education, and human resources.
GRADUATE STUDY
A masters degree is required for most areas of psychology,
including clinical, counseling, school, community and industrial/organizational.
Saint Rose psychology graduates have pursued graduate and doctoral
degrees
at many prestigious schools including:
- Boston College
- East Carolina University
- Fordham University
- Marymount University
- Pepperdine University
- Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
- The State University of New York at Albany
- University of Arizona
- University of Connecticut
- University of Denver
- University of Missouri, Columbia
MODERATE PRICE AND AGGRESSIVE FINANCIAL
AID

York state private colleges and we offer a variety of scholarships,
including multicultural and academic talent. More than 90% of our
students receive several forms of financial
