Teaching Approach:
My major instructional goal, in each of the very diverse courses that I teach, is to help students become increasingly skilled critical thinkers, who know the discipline of psychology well, but who also can evaluate evidence, arguments, and data to make wise decisions in all aspects of their personal and professional lives. This means that I ask students to read widely, write frequently, ask questions, evaluate psychological research studies, and apply a critical perspective when they are working, writing term papers, playing, watching TV, listening to a commercial, reading a novel, preparing to vote, arguing with their friends, and analyzing the news reports they hear/read/see/download each day.
